Frequently Asked Questions

How do I buy ETH?

The best way to purchase ETH is via Coinbase or a similar digital asset broker. Seeds isn't affiliated with Coinbase, but despite some bugginess, we've found them to be the easiest platform to use if you're in one of the 33 countries in which they work. If you're just signing up, you can use this code to receive $10 worth of Bitcoin on Coinbase when you buy or sell $100 worth of digital currency or more, and if you use the code, we'll receive that too, so thank you! :D

Now that I have ETH, how do I buy Seeds Tokens?

Now that you have some ETH, you’ll need to send it to the unique address given here to buy whatever amount of Seeds tokens you’d like. Please note that you'll need to deposit sufficient ETH to pay the gas costs for the transfer when you hit the 'Buy Seeds' button. This is a security measure we've taken - your deposit is made to a unique wallet, and is then sent to a second wallet when 'Buy Seeds' is initiated - to make transactions less vulnerable to hackers. If your ETH balance is too low for the network to immediately make your transfer, it may not go through on your first attempt, but may be successful subsequently (though it could take days). This is the design of the Ethereum network and is outside of our control at Seeds. To avoid failed or delayed transfers, it's helpful to use a gas limit of 120,000 GWEI or so, and any unused ETH will be returned to you by the network upon transaction completion.

After your transaction is confirmed, you'll see your ETH deposit balance has updated (again please note that this balance must be sufficient to cover the transfer that will be initiated when you hit 'Buy Seeds.') When your balance appears, you can click on 'Buy Seeds' to complete your purchase. When this transaction is successful, you'll receive a confirmation email with intructions regarding how to retrieve your Seeds Tokens, which is the final step.

I have BTC, but not ETH. Can I use it to buy Seeds Tokens?

Unfortunately, we don’t currently accept payments in Bitcoin. In order to buy SEEDS, you need to convert your BTC to ETH first, and then use those to buy SEEDS. If you feel strongly that we should be supporting payments in BTC as well, please let us know at We want to do everything we can to make our community happy.

I have ETH Classic. Is it different from ETH? Can I use it to buy SEEDS?

ETH Classic is different from ETH. After Etherum's hard fork due to the DAO Attack back in June 2016, some people decided to stick with the original chain and call it "Ethereum Classic." Thus, ETH Classic is a different coin with a different blockchain. Unfortunately, we don’t accept ETH Classic.

I sent the ETH needed to make my purchase. How do I retrieve my tokens?

After you have made your puchase and your transaction has been confirmed, you will be able to retrieve your tokens here. You will need to provide us with a token compatible wallet address. Coinbase, GDAX and/or Kraken wallets DON'T allow you to receive custom tokens like SEEDS, so you’ll need to create a wallet that does, using a tool like MyEtherWallet. Though there was recently a fork in MyEtherWallet's code, and apparently a co-founder break-up that led to the formation of MyCrypto, to our knowledge, MyEtherWallet is still among the most user-friendly and secure wallets out there for storing ERC-20 tokens like SEEDS, though we'll continue to pay close attention to this situation and amend this statement promptly if and when there is any evidence that this has changed. Additionally, you can find a list of token compatible wallets here.

I retrieved my Seeds Tokens but I don't see them in my wallet. Am I missing something?

It may take a few hours (or even a few days) for your Seeds Tokens to hit your wallet. And once the tokens have hit, they may still not be immediately visible, because while most wallets are able to receive, send, and store ETH, they don’t have the functionality to see incoming transactions of custom tokens like SEEDS.

In that case, in order to see your incoming Seeds tokens, you’ll have to ‘watch’ them. Login to your MyEtherWallet* address and click on ‘Add Custom Token.’ Enter the following information:

Now, you should be able to see your Seeds tokens in your wallet!

*If it’s been more than a few days and they still aren’t there, please email us at, and we’ll do whatever we can to help.

Thank you so much!

I have my Seeds Tokens! So now what do I do with them?

Now that you have your tokens, there are a couple things you can do with them. For one, you can make a Request for Help, which means that you ask our system for anything that you need - so long as it's legal. :) The alpha version of our Needs Request portal is here, but this is a very basic version, and we'd love your feedback regarding how to make it great! Additionally, our plan is to make Seeds available through platforms that support utility tokens like ours, as Seeds tokens are not a security. As the regulatory environment stabilizes in this area, we'll be sure to keep our community quickly informed of all developments.

Wait, what's a Needs Request?

A Needs Request, or a Request for Help, happens when you redeem a token and share your need with our system. We want you to have access to all of the resourcing and support you may need to feel taken care of, and to thrive. A Needs Request could be for any number of things - educational needs, business ambitions, medical help, and creative projects are just a few of the possibilities. We want to encourage you to dream big. If you could ask for anything in the world, what would it be? :)
